Live-in care is an increasingly popular alternative to moving into a care home. It enables adult or elderly to stay in their own homes and support their changing needs. For some individuals, it offers a way of continuing to live as independently as possible at home and in their desired local community.

  • What is Live-in Care?

Live-in care is when our trained carer lives in a client’s home to enable their needs to be met. This means that our Carers are available to help throughout the day and at night, if necessary. *Carers are entitled to rest breaks by law.*

Some carers live in all the time, while others work a rota pattern (for example: three weeks on, two weeks off). Live-in care is an increasingly popular alternative to moving into a care home. It enables adult or elderly to stay in their own homes and support their changing needs. For some individuals it offers a way of continuing to live as independently as possible at home and in their desired local community.

  • How Does Live-in Care Work?

Our Live-in care service offers a personalised approach to your care needs in your own home. Our team of carers are experienced individuals who provide around the clock service that is reliable and secure.

The Caregivers living with you at home usually involves two carers who alternate and therefore are able to stay with you or your loved one 24/7. We handpick each caregiver carefully to match your interests and needs.

The Client is required to provide a separate room for the caregiver to sleep in, including bedding. When possible, also the provision of a television and WiFi.

    Understand the Daily Average Hours Agreement, what this means and the implications if this continuously breached;

    • A Daily Average Hours Agreement is signed by each Caregiver, confirming their understanding that their work with you will be “unmeasured” under the National Minimum Wage Regulations. This means that although they will potentially be in your home for up to 24 hours of thr day, you should not expect them to work anymore than an average of hours that will be determined both in your contract with us and in the caregiver’s contract. This is usually 8-10 hours within a 24-hours period.
    • It is important to note that should the caregiver be called upon several times during a particular night, that this may be charged for separately. Should this become a regular occurrence, the package will need to be reassessed and could result in an increased cost.
    • Your Caregiver must be allowed a continuous 2 hours break each day along with sleep time and other downtime when they are not supporting you. This should be agreed and stated within your support plan but can be mutually adjusted on a day to day basis if you and your Caregiver agree.
    • The client is to provide meals and drinks, or a budget for this. This should be the equivalent to 3 meals per day, and soft drinks items such as cola, chocolate etc. need to be bought by the Caregiver themself. Online shopping is a useful service to utilise.
    • Only ask your Caregiver to undertake housework as agreed within your support plan, a specific list of tasks will be agreed before the service begins
  • Who benefits from Live-in Care?

Everyone can use live-in care. Live-in care is good for individuals who may become confused by a new environment and find it difficult to adapt to change.

    • Live-in care will suit individuals or people living with dementia, where continuity, routine and familiar surroundings are very reassuringly important and improve quality of life.
    • Lonely adults can use this type of care for companionship, also caregivers for their love one’s can use it as a break called Respite Care.
    • Live-in care also provides important supervision that someone, for example, living with dementia might need to keep them safe and calm.

Live-in care is not only for long-term care but it can be used for a short time.

  • What are the Benefits of Live-in Care?

At Callquest we believe that care should be about your decision to receive care in your own home.

Your Home, Your Care, Your Choice.

Live-in care also offers companionship, reducing the risk of you feeling isolated and lonely. A professional carer will also support you in your interests and hobbies, encouraging you to continue with them wherever possible. This can have positive effects on confidence, happiness and wellbeing.

The benefits of Live-in Care at your own home includes:

    Flexibility

A key benefit of live-in care is the increased capacity to be flexible in activities. It is also a more responsive service compare to those commissioned on a routine, pre-planned basis.

    Safety and security

Our caregivers have to undergo enhanced criminal record checks (also known as DBS checks) and their references are thoroughly vetted.

    Independence

The “live-in” model of care is highly valued for independence, flexibility and control that it offers to the people who use our services. Live-in care can take a number of forms but in essence, the Caregiver takes up residence in your own home for an agreed upon period.

    Reassurance

In addition to flexibility of agreed work, you will benefit from reassurance that there is another person in the house who will be able to assist you in case of any unforeseen needs or emergencies. The reassurance is often a key factor in giving you the confidence to live in your own home, rather than the need to move into a residential care setting.

    Choice of live in care

It allows you to have a large degree of choice and control over your own life within your own home. The provision of care, work tasks and duration are agreed in advance. The need for support and assistance will vary from person to person, and often includes tasks that take just a few minutes at any one time, hence we work on a Daily Average Agreement.

The Agreement sets out the agreed length of time that the caregiver will work in each given day; this will be explained in greater depth when your assessment has taken place.

When not conducting any care, or work-related task, your caregiver is entitled to rest, sleep and to engage in other normal activities within their own life.

Visiting Care

Visiting care is for people who require some help to live independently at home. Sometimes referred to as domiciliary care or hourly home care, it is a flexible service where a caregiving visits your home to support with your day-to-day tasks, care needs and requirements.

For many, visiting care is their first experience of receiving outside help with day-to-day living. The needs of the adults or elderly are not at the stage where full time live-in care is required, but they still need a little support to remain independent and safely in their own home. It is a service which provides opportunity to acclimatise to the idea of receiving outside help from a carer and provides useful insight into whether care at home is the right long-term solution for them.

Other Services

  • Respite Care

Caring for a loved one is one of the most generous and caring things you can do. Whether you’re caring for a parent with Alzheimer’s or a disabled sibling, you’re providing the assistance they need to continue living safely at home. But what do you do when you need a break?

Callquest for Care in-home respite care is here to help.

Being a family caregiver is a rewarding, yet demanding role. To provide the best possible care, you need to be sure you are also taking good care of yourself. Attending to your own diet, incorporating exercise, taking breaks, and looking after your emotional well-being is essential. Many family caregivers find it difficult to spend time focusing on their own needs, when their loved one is the focus of their attention.

It’s important for every caregiver to balance both the needs of the individual and their own. If this delicate dance is not performed correctly, it’s all too easy for a caregiver to “burn out,” leading to lack of sleep, imbalance in lifestyle, or overall decreased happiness.

  • Night Care

Having a care worker on hand throughout the night can provide the help to get a good night's sleep and the peace of mind knowing that support is there if needed.

    How night care can help?

In-home care service does not stop at the end of the day. Night care can help with lack of mobility, falls risks, anxieties over being left alone, help with getting to the bathroom, medication and conditions such as dementia. So, we also provide overnight care so you or your loved one can rest comfortably through the night hours too.

You may find you need night-time care if you or someone close to you feels uncomfortable being left alone. One-to-one nightly care from one of our fully trained carers means someone is there to assist with toilet breaks, administering medication or moving position in bed.

Everybody is different and each situation is unique, which is why our overnight care is tailored to you. With a dedicated night-time carer, help is available at any time. It means you or your loved one can stay in your own home – the place that is most comfortable.

    Reasons for Night Care Service

Overnight care can ease yours or a loved one’s anxiety about being alone at night. But it also helps in many other ways, including:

    • Assisting with toilet breaks
    • Support with administering medication through the night
    • Regular help for changing position in bed, particularly after an operation or injury
    • Help with complex care needs with the help of our nursing-led team
    • For a balance health by being able to rest through the night
    • Someone on hand for those living with progressive conditions such as dementia
    • Extra peace of mind for your family knowing someone is on-hand
    • Above all else, finding reliable overnight care is sometimes the deciding factor in allowing people to stay in their own home, rather than considering care home.

    Types of night care

    Sleeping night

The care worker will typically be able to get a reasonable night’s sleep, but is available to help if required. This option is recommended if you or your loved one feel uncomfortable when left alone throughout the night.

    Waking night

A waking night carer will provide ongoing support throughout the night. This is the preferred option for those who wake several times a night and may need more comprehensive assistance.

Please feel free to contact us on 0800 211 8500 to explain you all the options.
